The 2024 By Design and by Disaster conference entitled “Power in Transformation” seeks to investigate fair and radically democratic responses to the interplay of disastrous ecological, social and economic trends and events.

Our paper entitled “Power Relations and Border Regions: An Interdisciplinary Analysis of the Italian Borders with France, Austria, and Slovenia” presented some early insights from the project focusing on the responses to the polycrisis observed in our three case studies.

The paper contributes to the academic part of the track “DECOLONIZE”, moderated by Anja Katharina Salzer. The track seeks to investigate the question: How does decolonization inform the attempts to overcome the imperial mode of production and living – in world-views, knowledge systems, attitudes, infrastructures, institutions and pseudo-solutions?
