The Politecnico di Milano hosted the XXVII Società Italiana degli Urbanisti (SIU) National Conference "Publicness: Le sfide della dimensione pubblica nelle città e nei territori".

From 18 to 20 June 2025, the XXVII Società Italiana degli Urbanisti (SIU) National Conference took place. It was organised by the SIU, the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DAStU), the Department of Architecture, Built Environment, and Construction Engineering (ABC), with CRAFT,  Politecnico di Milano.

Under the title Publicness: le sfide della dimensione pubblica nelle città e nei territori, the conference questioned the notion and the lens of the publicness, as the “condition of being public”. Centering the debate on publicness means critically examining who defines and maintains the public sphere, balancing it with private interests, and considering all beneficiaries (human and non-human) to promote long-term equity and sustainability in urban development. The conference programme featured a focus on Milan, 11 parallel sessions and the workshop YoungerSIU 2025.
